Saw an unexpected funnel today near Kensington, MN. Overall the shelf clouds on this day were the real sight to see, but early on, I watched a weak shelf cloud become inflow dominant as the updraft appeared to rotate around to the front side of the cell. The shelf slowly dissipated and what was a shelf became a small shelf which started showing rotational characteristics. I whipped out the video camera as I started getting interested, and about that time a brief funnel formed.

This situation was quite a learning experience as I was able to watch a shelf evolve from an outflow area to an inflow/updraft area. However, shortly after this thing gusted out again and that was the last I saw of any good updrafts.
